Chanel Introduces A$AP Rocky

As the times shifts over the years, fashion has always been intertwined with musicians dated all the way back to the 1900’s. It has been astonishing seeing how we have evolved over the decades, and one of the best examples of this is A$AP Rocky. Not only is he known for his music but his New York style and “Mr.Handsome” persona, has made him interesting to watch in the fashion world. He was the first black man to grace Dior’s fashion house, to having multiple collaborations with other brands like Puma. He is also notably the founder of the creative agency AWGE, so it makes complete sense as to why he is now Chanel’s latest ambassador.
Chanel made the announcement that A$AP Rocky would be their new official ambassador in November of 2025. This was a no brainer for the French-Belgian designer Matthieu Blazy, creative director at Chanel. Blazy and Rocky has been longtime creative alliances since his time serving at Bottega Veneta as their creative director, where Rocky was already the front-row fixture and star in the Bottega Veneta campaigns. It made complete sense that when Blazy moved to Chanel, Rocky would follow.

2025 was A$AP Rocky’s year for fashion because it was also in November he won the “Fashion Icon” Award at the CFDA. Earlier in the year he had acquired the spot as co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala. In the eyes of Chanel, they acquired Rocky at the heights of his fashion credibility, making the collaboration beneficial to both the fashion house and Rocky. In everything, there is strategy and Chanel is no exception. Rocky appointment to the fashion house reflected a broader shift in the luxury fashion space, the industry increasingly recognizes that cultural relevance requires real voices form different backgrounds, and the hip hop’s culture and influence on high fashion has grown expeditiously. Chanel has stick to its strict policies and rarely ever step outside of its bubble but since the change in leadership, Matthieu Blazy have already been adapting to the movement and now as re entered the conversation of relevancy.

The revelation of the ambassadorship was unveiled with a three-minute short film directed by Michel Gondry. The stars were no other than A$AP Rocky and actress Margaret Qualley, another ambassador as a couple in a marriage proposal scene set across Manhattan.
Creative director Matthieu Blazy praised A$AP Rocky’s work ethic, calling him “an incredible artist who puts is heart and soul into every project e’s involved in, in addition to being an incredible human being — musician, actor, father, friend — he brings so much to the table and always delivers with kindness.” As we can see, this was not just a random deal but a genuine partnership between two people who respect and admire their respectable craft.
